Dr Andrea Paparini, the founder director of Econumerics, is an environmental scientist, geospatial data scientist, and molecular biologist, working as consultant and adjunct senior researcher in Perth, Western Australia.
Andrea completed a MSc in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology) in Rome, and a PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Siena, Italy. He also holds a MSc in Environmental Science (GIS, Sensing and Environmental Data Analysis), from the UWA.
Andrea has experience in ecological data analysis, using spatial statistics (GIS), modelling, and remote sensing approaches, biological communities’ surveys, using biomolecular approaches (eDNA), bioinformatics, statistics, phylogenetics, and next-generation DNA sequencing.
With a combination of multidisciplinary experience, strong theoretical knowledge, and advanced analytical competences, Andrea successfully delivered projects spanning the biomolecular and environmental fields.
Andrea has over twenty-five years of teaching, research, and consultancy experience, gained in Australia, Italy, and USA. In Australia, he has collaborated with a variety of clients including the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, WA Water Corporation, Swan River Trust, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Department of Health, Bayer Healthcare, Bayer Australia, Water Research Australia, Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, DHI Water & Environment Pty Ltd, ALCOA of Australia Ltd., Department of Water and Environmental Regulations.
Andrea is a member of various scientific societies, a co-founder of the West Coast Microbiome Network, and serves as Associate Editor and Reviewer of several peer-reviewed international journals. In Rome, Andrea worked as a full-time academic for about 10 years as Assistant Professor (research intensive) or Lecturer in Bioinformatics, Public Health, Ecology and Biotechnology. After a postdoctoral training at the prestigious Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, CA, USA, Andrea moved to Perth, first at The University of Western Australia (Centre for Water Research) and then Murdoch University (College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education).
He is currently affiliated with two universities in Perth and collaborates with the WA Government.
