Floora is an Associate Director and Botanist with over 19 years’ experience in the environmental consulting industry. Floora joined the AECOM team in 2012, elevating from Senior Botanist to Ecology Team Leader accountable for 11 professional botanist, ecologist and zoologists. Floora’s experience includes baseline flora and vegetation assessments, rehabilitation monitoring, vegetation condition monitoring and an array of targeted/project-specific flora, community and weed surveys.
Her career commenced in 2007 at Mattiske Consulting where the focus was mine site rehabilitation programs and basic baseline flora and vegetation and targeted searches in the mining sector. Following this the focus was predominantly government and private entities including Main Roads, Western Power and Water Corporation. The depth and complexity of project scopes have fluctuated with economic demand and changes in legislation and best-practice.
Floora has worked across the entire State, from inland desert to remote Kimberley islands, the remnants of vegetation in the Avon Wheatbelt and the biodiversity hotspot that is southwest WA. With improvements in technology the team are able to safety traverse remote locations with SPOT beacons, satellite phones, In-Reach Garmin devices and robust safety systems in place.
Flora and vegetation scopes have varied including developing vegetation condition monitoring programs for greenfields projects and working with clients to understand their obligations under existing management plans. Her understanding of legislation and regulators expectations means she is able to provide advice based on recent regulator requirements and standards.
